Grune, my first game.

Postby FreshwaterSalmon » Sun Oct 20, 2013 1:17 pm

Hey guys, I'm making a game called Grune. It's going to be a sci-fi 2d side-scroller shooter with pixel graphics. I'm hoping to make it multiplayer but that might be a bit too much to do. Right now its in an extremely early version (like cubes as enemies and no animations). Here's a look at the application icon:
App.png
The red stuff is not blood. It's energy, what the characters use as ammo. The planet is called Grune, its where the characters come from. The gray sword thing is a knife in the game.

The story is that the people who lived in Grune were very war like. There culture mainly consisted of war, they would battle for mates and most importantly battle for glory. Eventually they destroyed their planet and live in space ships. They teleport down to other planets and duel with each other.

Here's the character you play as:
Character.png
I went with a gold and green color palette. The fin thingy on his back is a jet pack, and the yellow things are a form of electricity/wires, they give off light.

I'm thinking of making a game company or studio or whatever you call it. I'm thinking of "One Man's Hands" games. Here is the logo I made in photoshop:

OneMansHands.png
This is the logo. It's 512 x 512.

All types of games as long as they're not generic. I want games that I make to be different in some way or another :D

Just finished some textures for the concrete ground. I made a sloped texture, a flat texture, and a corner texture. I did this because it's easy to create "levels" and I might want to make a level editor for people to use. You can flip and rotate tiles. They can be put together for levels like this:

ConcreteCombined.png
This is a combination of three different textures. There are 10 tiles that were combined to create this.

Zoom in on your computer to see the pixel work. In-game the pixels would be larger. Each tile used in this image is 64 x 64 pixels, two times the size of the character.

By "Minecraft style look" do you mean pixel art? If so then yes I am going for that look. But please don't refer to it as Minecraft style because Minecraft wasn't the first to use this style and plenty of other games use it. I know I sound kind of like an asshole, it just gets me annoyed when people compare things that were already things with Minecraft. Like when someone compares a survival game with Minecraft just because it's a survival game. Anyways, have a nice day :)

yes i do mean pixel art it is just one of the few pixelised by choice games that i can think of. I do not think minecraft can be compared as a survival game more a creative sandbox with no set rules and an essence to survive but soon into your survival world it will be more about making your house/castle by this time better as you can live easily.

I made a different version of my logo:
OneMansHandsLogo.png
I went for a different look this time. I feel like the hands need more detail.

EDIT:
I like this version a whole lot better. I just added some shading and details.

Share your opinions. Maybe there should be a different color instead of white?
OneMansHandsLogo.png (6.44 KiB) Viewed 4051 times

EDIT:
I edited some word placement:
OneMansHandsLogo.png
I think I like this better.

If you have any ideas for the word placement or anything for this logo I'd be happy to know. Please share :D

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that I think I might be putting project Grune on hold. I think I bit off more than I can chew, trying to make a 2d game in Unity3D. However, I will keep working on my coding skills and I have a couple of ideas for easier games. Thanks for all the feed back :D
